Albinism is a genetic disorder resulting from mutations of some genes, it is hereditary, though it's occurrence is recessive. When these mutations occur, it inhibits the production of pigment in the skin known as melanin. It is melanin that protects the skin against Ultra-violent rays and assists in eye development.

People with albinism will have the following symptoms:

  • an absence of color in the hair, skin, or eyes

  • lighter than normal coloring of the hair, skin, or eyes

  • patches of skin that have an absence of color
